A non-playing member of the Kiwis’ triumphant 2014 Four Nations squad, powerful winger Sosaia Feki tasted premiership success at NYC level with the Warriors and in the NRL with Cronulla.
The Bay Roskill Vikings junior was one of just four players to feature in both the Warriors’ 2010 and 2011 Under-20s grand final wins, starting at centre on both occasions and representing the Junior Kiwis in the latter year. But he was snaffled by the Sharks and scored seven tries in 19 rookie-season games in 2013 before turning out for Tonga at the World Cup.
A strong follow-up campaign in the NRL – crossing nine times in 20 appearances – earned Feki a spot in New Zealand’s Four Nations squad, but experienced trio Jason Nightingale, Gerard Beale and Manu Vatuvei were preferred on the wings during the tournament.
Further opportunities with the Kiwis were not forthcoming, but Feki represented Tonga again in 2015 and scored a career-high 14 tries as part of the Cronulla side that ended the club’s half-century wait for a maiden premiership in 2016.
Feki continued to be a reliable performer on the flank for the Sharks and a consistent tryscorer in ensuing seasons, leaving for Super League at the end of 2019 with 67 tries from 148 NRL games to his credit. He endured a horror run of injuries after linking with Castleford in 2020.
