Versatile Auckland back Bill Davidson toured Australia twice with the New Zealand side and played two Tests on home soil in the post-WWI period.
The City Rovers fullback/centre/wing served in the New Zealand Army and won selection for the first international foray after the war, the 1919 tour of Australia. He played in nine of New Zealand's 11 matches, scoring three tries and kicking eight goals.
Later that season the 22-year-old lined up in the centres in the third Test against Australia in Auckland, a 34-23 loss.
After kicking three goals in Auckland's 24-16 win over England in 1920, he was chosen as New Zealand's custodian for the first Test and slotted a goal in a 31-7 loss. He was replaced by Norm Loveridge for the second Test.
Davidson was a prolific scorer again on New Zealand's 1921 tour of Australia, racking up three tries and 17 goals in six appearances. He played for Auckland and Auckland Province against the touring NSW team in 1922 and retired from playing the following season.
Younger brother Ben represented New Zealand in 1926-27 and 1932, while Bill later coached Auckland, Buller, Ponsonby United and City Rovers.
