OVERVIEW
Physical Disability Rugby League

About

Whutupōro Rīki Whaikaha o Aotearoa (Physical Disability Rugby League New Zealand) has made a powerful impact on the physically disabled community by creating an inclusive pathway through rugby league. Founded to engage and empower whaikaha (physically disabled) people, PDRL offers individuals whether born with a disability or acquiring one later in life, a chance to experience the comradery and competition of rugby league. The game stays true to league while incorporating modified rules to ensure safety and accessibility for players with varied levels of mobility, strength, and coordination. To accommodate different abilities, players wear coloured shorts: red for touch-only players and black for full-contact. Everyone can play, contribute, and grow within the game they love, proving that disability is no barrier to being part of a team and competing with pride.
