Versatile Auckland back Henry 'Bert' Laing toured Australia with the New Zealand team three times and holds the distinction of being the last Kiwi to tour Britain with the 'Australasian' Kangaroos.

Norfolk Island-born Laing played in the Waikato before making an immediate impact on the Auckland competition with City Rovers in 1919, playing four matches on New Zealand's tour of Australia and turning out in one Test at five-eighth when Australia visited later that year.

After touring Australia again in 1921, Laing - also adept at centre and wing - was invited to go to Britain with the famed 1921-22 Kangaroos. He scored three tries in 10 appearances (no Tests) in the Old Dart.

Laing represented Auckland against NSW in 1922, switching club allegiances to Devonport United that year, and played three matches on New Zealand's 1925 tour of Australia.

Younger brother Albert represented New Zealand at Test level in 1932, while Bert coached North Shore Albions and Manukau during the 1930s.
