Former All Black forward Arthur 'Bolla' Francis made two tour of Australia with the New Zealand rugby league team and was part of the 1911-12 Australasian Kangaroos squad.

Ponsonby and Auckland stalwart Francis played his first rugby union Test against Australia in 1905, and featured in subsequent series against Australia (1907), Anglo-Welsh (1908) and Australia again (1910).

He switched codes in 1911 with Newton Rangers and played seven games in the back-row on New Zealand's tour of Australia that year, scoring three tries.

One of four New Zealanders chosen for the Kangaroos, 'Bolla' played 24 games in Britain and was the squad's top pointscorer with 125 (nine tries, 49 goals). He also featured in two of the Tests of the series victory against Northern Union.

Francis was named captain for New Zealand's tour of Australia in 1912 but left after only three matches to take up a contract with English club Wigan. He played for the club until 1919.
