Bill Mountford biography

Born: April 29, 1922
Died: June 29, 1991
Test record: 1 Test (1946) - 0 points

The younger brother of the legendary Ces and older brother of fellow Kiwi Ken, Bill Mountford played for New Zealand, South Island and West Coast against England in 1946.

The Blackball star scored a try (as did Ken) in South Island's 24-12 loss to England and featured in West Coast's memorable 17-8 victory over the tourists, both as a centre with Ken at lock in both.

Bill was called up as a winger for the one-off Test, which New Zealand won 13-8 at Carlaw Park.

He represented South Island again in 1947 and later became West Coast Rugby League's director of coaching, as well as refereeing representative matches.

Ken would play for the Kiwis in 1947-48, while Wigan star Ces went on to coach New Zealand.
