Auckland three-quarter Len Scott played five Tests for New Zealand across three home series against England.

A prolific tryscorer for Devonport United, Scott carved out a remarkable record versus the 1928 English tourists after getting called up by the New Zealand selectors.

The 21-year-old was chosen on the wing for the series opener and scored two tries in a 17-13 victory at Carlaw Park. He then dotted down in losses for Auckland Province and Auckland in the space of three days, and was New Zealand’s lone tryscorer in the 13-5 second-Test defeat in Dunedin.

Scott scored another try in New Zealand XIII’s 27-26 eclipse of England in Dunedin and backed up three days later in Christchurch for a 6-5 loss in the deciding third Test.

He represented Auckland and North Island the following season but moved to Fiji in 1930, before returning home for the 1931 season. Again demonstrating his tryscoring touch, Scott crossed in both matches against visiting Sydney club Eastern Suburbs for Devonport United and a combined Marist-Devonport team.

After scoring three tries for North Island against South Island, Scott was recalled for New Zealand’s 1932 series opener against Great Britain, a 24-9 loss in Auckland, but was replaced on the flank by Ben Davidson for the second Test.

Scott spent the next two seasons out of the game but returned impressively at club level in 1935 and ’36, receiving another Kiwis recall in the latter season for the opening Test against England. Suffering a leg injury in the 10-8 defeat, he was named for the second Test but was eventually ruled unfit.

Scott played for North Shore Albions (formerly Devonport) until 1940.
