Lightweight flyer Dean Orr’s sole appearance for the Kiwis came as a replacement during the one-off Test against Papua New Guinea at Carlaw Park in 1983.
The winger represented the Junior Kiwis in 1982-83 and earned a call-up to the New Zealand side after piling on 11 tries for Auckland also-rans Te Atatu in the latter season.
Orr, just 19, and fellow one-Test Kiwi John Ackland were the two reserves who played in the Kiwis’ 60-20 victory over the Kumuls.
The 1983 Autex Rugby League Annual described Orr as ‘probably the speediest (winger) since the days of Neville Denton’. He was an Auckland regular in 1984 but faded off the representative scene thereafter.
