Auckland hooker Murray Wright played two tour matches for New Zealand in 1975 before heading south and representing Canterbury.
After spending the 1974-75 off-season with English club Bramley, the 21-year-old Otahuhu rake was part of the Kiwis’ 1975World Championship Series squad for their short midyear tour to Australia, turning out against North Queensland and North Coast Division.
He also represented Auckland against France and Australia in 1975, as well as playing in the provincial side’s AMO Cup midweek matches against Manly and Newcastle.
Wright transferred to Hornby with fellow Auckland Kiwis Bob Jarvis and Wayne Robertson the following season. The trio helped the club climb to third in 1976, while Wright played four games for Canterbury – including the gallant 29-22 loss to his former province in the Rothmans Cup final.
