Waikato-born half Trevor Patrick played two Tests for New Zealand while studying at the University of Otago.
A New Zealand Schoolboy Kiwi and Junior Kiwi rep, Patrick gained his senior rugby league grounding with Taniwharau in the Waikato before heading to Dunedin in 1968.
The 21-year-old became just the third Otago player to represent New Zealand since World War II (after Jimmy Haig and John Walshe) when he was selected at five-eighth for the 1969 series opener against Australia. He made way for debutant Gary Woollard after a 20-10 loss at Carlaw Park.
Patrick was recalled at halfback for the first Test against Great Britain in 1970. Concussed during the second half of a 19-15 defeat, he remained with the squad but was replaced by Eric Carson for the second Test.
As well as later representing Wellington, Patrick was a stalwart of the New Zealand Universities side from 1969-84 – including captaining the team on its 1984 tour of Britain and France. In 1986 he coached New Zealand Universities to the inaugural University Rugby League World Cup title in Auckland.
