WARREN WINTER – KIWI #538

Born: c. 1953
Test record: 1 Test (1978) – 0 points
Tours: 1978 tour of Australia and Papua New Guinea

Mt Wellington winger/fullback Warren Winter toured Australia and Papua New Guinea with the Kiwis in 1978, playing one Test.

Winter represented Auckland against France in 1975 and against Australia in 1977, the first leg of the province’s famed ‘Grand Slam’ of victories over international opponents.

Overcoming a rib injury early on New Zealand’s ’78 tour, Winter scored eight tries in eight minor matches – including doubles against North Coast and Wide Bay in Australia, and against Highlands in Papua New Guinea – before coming off the bench for his sole Test appearance in the historic one-off clash with Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby.
