Forward Lawrence Bensemann played for Wellington and New Zealand against the touring New South Wales side of 1913.

A student at Nelson College, Bensemann moved to Wellington and played for the fledgling Newtown club. He scored a try in Wellington’s 34-18 loss to NSW, earning a call-up for New Zealand’s second clash with the tourists a week later and playing loose forward in a 59-18 defeat at Newtown Park.

Bensemann later served in both World Wars.
