Versatile Wellington back Johnny Dodd toured Britain and France with the 1951-52 Kiwis.

From the St George club in the WRL, Dodd played centre for Wellington against France in 1951 and gained a place in the New Zealand touring squad stand-off understudy to George Menzies later that year on the back of an outstanding trial performance.

The bolter played nine games on tour (no Tests) and scored four tries, dotting down in consecutive games against Batley, Leigh and Bradford.

Dodd did not represent New Zealand again after the tour, but he played for Wellington at halfback against France in 1955 (scoring a try), and on the wing for his province against Great Britain in 1958 (bagging a double) and France in 1960.
