West Coast’s second Kiwi, winger/centre Charlie McElwee toured Australia with the 1921 New Zealand team.
McElwee’s games across the Tasman included a start at centre in a 21-16 loss to Queensland and an appearance on the wing in the tour-closing victory over Newcastle.
In a momentous 1921 season, McElwee also featured in West Coast’s first-ever game against Auckland. He would later play in West Coast’s match against the star-studded 1925 Queensland tourists and in South Island’s inaugural win over North Island in 1929.
