Powerful Auckland centre Alan Riechelmann toured Australia with the 1952 Kiwis.

From the Marist club, the 22-year-old was kept out of the series-winning Test team by Tommy Baxter in Ron McKay, but he played in matches against Newcastle, Central Queensland, Central West Queensland and Toowoomba, scoring a try in the latter.

Riechelmann represented Hawke’s Bay in rugby union in 1953-54 while posted there for work, but he returned to rugby league and Marist in 1955, turning out at provincial level for Auckland.

A nephew, Charles Riechelmann, became an All Black in the late-1990s.
