A code switch at the age of 33 saw former Black Fern Shakira Baker win Kiwi Ferns selection at the end of her first NRLW season with the Warriors. 
After making her debut for Wellington in 2009, 19-year-old outside back Baker played the first of 13 rugby union Tests for New Zealand in 2011. The national Sevens team regular was part of New Zealand’s squad for the 2016 Rio Olympics. 
Baker played for Hurricanes Poua in the 2023-24 Super Rugby Aupiki seasons before signing on for the Warriors’ NRLW return in 2025. 
Displaying her versatile, Masterton-born Baker made eight appearances at second-row, five-eighth and centre, scoring one try, making three line-breaks, and averaging 18.5 tackles and 116 metres per game.
