The prestigious Pirtek Volunteer of the Month award sees members of our grassroots rugby league community across Aotearoa recognised for their dedication, hard mahi, and service to the game.
This award is given to volunteers who display the core values of NZRL’s Kiwi Way: being family first, innovative, inclusive, respectful, respectful and humble. New Zealand Rugby League is proud to announce our fourth winner for 2024, with the Pirtek Volunteer of the Month award for August going to Sharlene Koopu and Carlye Reece.
Together, Sharlene and Carlye both manage the U14 Richmond Bulldogs, going consistently above and beyond for the young boys. From doing pick-ups and drop-offs when other parents can’t, to being supportive and friendly to all, Sharlene and Carlye are forever thinking of the boys during season and when in off season. In what started as a group of boys, they have instilled brotherhood, and the team is now described as a whanau.
Not only has Sharlene and Carlye helped the team with a successful club campaign this year, but they have also both managed numerous rep teams as well as organised a once in a lifetime Australian tour for the boys also. They are forever working tirelessly to provide the boys with opportunities with nothing expected in return.
Pirtek CEO Chris Bourke shared, “ Congratulations, Sharlene Koopu and Carlye Reece, on being named Pirtek Volunteer of the Month!
You’ve created not just a team, but a family, and your commitment to the boys is truly inspiring. This recognition is well-deserved!”
Congratulations Sharlene and Carlye from New Zealand Rugby League!
Pirtek Volunteer of the Month will be back next year, so store up your nominations and keep an eye out.
