The prestigious Pirtek Volunteer of the Month award sees members of our grassroots rugby league community across Aotearoa recognised for their dedication, hard mahi, and service to the game.
This award is given to volunteers who display the core values of NZRL’s Kiwi Way: being family first, innovative, inclusive, respectful, respectful and humble. New Zealand Rugby League is proud to announce our fourth winner for 2024, with the Pirtek Volunteer of the Month award for August going to Cameron Tukapua.
Cameron hails from the Eastern Eagles Rugby League Club in Christchurch, and is instrumental in so many ways, his commitment to the sport and community evident to all, and vital in the club’s growth and success.
As well as taking on coaching roles across a number of different divisions, helping young talent within the game, Cameron also demonstrates his leadership skills through being President of the club.
Cameron also took on the hefty task of coordinating the pre-season whānau fitness training sessions. This helped engage wider family and support networks, promoted health and wellness, and ultimately saw club membership grow by over 100. An amazing result.
As well, Cameron has been a logistical and administrative star for the club. He’s been handling all funding applications, securing sponsorship deals, ultimately ensuring the club’s long-term stability, as well as organising new apparel and playing kits for all the teams.
Lastly, Cameron was a key figure in the club’s new haka. Being part of the writing and creation process all the way through its development, the haka now offers the club a strong cultural identity and fosters a sense of belonging amongst all those that belong to it
Pirtek CEO Chris Bourke shared, “Congratulations, Cameron Tukapua, on being the Pirtek Volunteer of the Month!
Your unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership have not only driven the growth and success of the Eastern Eagles Rugby League club but have also made a profound impact on our community.”
Congratulations Cameron from New Zealand Rugby League!
