Veteran forward Tom Haddon played two Tests for New Zealand during the 1919 series against Australia.

Haddon played for North Shore, Grafton and – after serving in World War I – City Rovers, from where he represented Auckland in a historic Northern Union Cup match against Hawke’s Bay at Eden Park in 1919.

Later that year he came into the New Zealand pack for the last two matches of the four-Test rubber against the Australian tourists, featuring at lock in 34-23 loss and at prop in a 32-2 defeat, both in Auckland.

Haddon reportedly gained clearance to head to Australia in 1920 and played in Eastern Suburbs’ lower grades but suffered a broken leg. He later played for Devonport and was involved with Mount Albert as a coach, manager and selector after hanging up the boots.
