Versatile Auckland back Roy Clark played three Tests at five-eighth for New Zealand as international rugby league resumed in the wake of World War II.

The rugby union convert played for North Shore and Ellerslie before debuting for Auckland in 1943.

Equally adept at fullback and centre, he captained his province in two losses to the Great Britain ‘Indomitables’ in 1946, then was chosen as skipper on Test debut as New Zealand upset the tourists 13-8 at Carlaw Park.

Clark was named in the Kiwis’ squad for the 1947-48 tour of Britain and France, playing 17 games – including the first and third Test losses to Great Britain.
