Diminutive five-eighth/centre Ron Ballantyne became just Northland’s second Kiwi when he toured Australia in 1967.
Joining Ted Meyer – a 1930 tourist to Australia – as the only players from the region to win national selection, the 21-year-old played six minor matches across the Tasman.
Ballantyne debuted in a win over Riverina at West Wyalong and featured in subsequent matches against South Division (Wollongong), Wide Bay (Gympie), Central Queensland (Rockhampton), Ipswich and Northern Division (Armidale).
