Blackball front-row stalwart Robin Scholefield played a solitary Test for New Zealand against the 1965 Australian tourists and went on the Kiwis’ tour of Britain and France later that year.

A South Island representative, Scholefield turned out for West Coast against Australia to earn a call-up for the first Test, which saw New Zealand go down 13-8 at Carlaw Park.

Scholefield and front-row partner Maunga Emery were replaced by Sam Edwards and Eddie Moore for the second Test, but he was chosen in the Kiwis’ touring squad just weeks later.

The big, rugged bookend, who turned 24 while in Britain, played nine matches on tour – including wins over Warrington and Castleford – but was not chosen for the Tests.
