Ponsonby stand-off Ricky Carey toured Australia with the Kiwis in 1967.
It was a meteoric rise for the teenager that year, earning an Auckland debut after starring for a dominant Ponsonby side.
Carey, the cousin of Kiwis great Cyril Eastlake, turned 20 just days after his New Zealand debut against Riverina and he went on to play seven tour matches, scoring tries in wins over Wide Bay and Far North Queensland.
Part of the furniture at Ponsonby for several years thereafter, Carey became a founding player for the Maritime club in 1975.
