Taranaki rugby union convert ‘Paddy’ George toured Australia with the New Zealand rugby league team after moving to Wellington and switching codes.
A five-eighth, George also featured in the three-quarter line in playing five matches on New Zealand’s 1909 tour of Australia, scoring a try in a 27-19 win over Queensland.
George was a founding member of the Newtown club when the Wellington Rugby League competition was established in 1912 and was a regular for his province.
He made one more appearance for his country, coming on as a replacement and kicking a goal during the 58-19 loss to the touring NSW side at Wellington’s Newtown Park.
