The grandfather of Kevin and Tony Iro, and the great-uncle of Ken Stirling, Auckland forward Les Pye toured with the 1947-48 Kiwis.
Pye played rugby union in Wellington, Wairarapa and Manawatu, as well as for New Zealand Army teams during WWII.
Switching to rugby league after the war, he played twice for Auckland against the 1946 Lions.
The North Shore Albions player made 16 appearances for the Kiwis in Britain and France on the following year’s tour, including a Test debut in the series opener against Great Britain – an 11-10 loss at Headingley – and a tryscoring performance in the 28-20 Test win over Wales in Swansea.
The mobile Pye, 33 years of age, also crossed for a try in a victory against Halifax.
