Hokitika-born Joe Curtain was the last of the Prebbleton club’s four New Zealand representatives, touring Britain and France with the 1951-52 Kiwis.

A West Coast rugby union rep in the late-1940s, Curtain moved to Christchurch and switched codes with Prebbleton in 1950. The prop/second-rower played for Canterbury and South Island in 1950-51 before earning his Kiwis call-up in the latter year.

The 26-year-old debuted in a loss at Halifax but was subsequently injured early on during the tour. He recovered to score a try in a win over Bramley and finished with 11 appearances (no Tests).

Curtain, an accomplished competitive woodchopper, later played for the fledgling Marist club in the CRL competition.His tenure in the Canterbury forward pack included matches against France (1951) and Great Britain (1954).
