Point Chevalier winger Gordon Moncur played six matches on New Zealand’s 1956 tour of Australia.
The 23-year-old’s call-up came during his first season representing Auckland and North Island, impressing with the speed that had seen him win Auckland sprint titles.
Moncur debuted in the third match of the tour against Newcastle and scoring his only try in a big win over North Queensland. He displayed his versatility by playing centre in a victory over Wide Bay and fullback as the Kiwis pipped Northern Division, but his path to a spot on the flank in the Test line-up was blocked by Vern Bakalich, Tom Hadfield and Cyril Eastlake.
