The last West Coast-based player to win selection for New Zealand, halfback Glen Gibb toured Britain and France with the Kiwis in 1985.

A key part of Runanga Seagulls’ eight-year streak of WCRL grand final victories (1979-86), Gibb debuted for West Coast in 1982 and scored two tries in South Island’s loss to Great Britain in 1984.

Gibb represented South Island against Australia in 1985 before nabbing a spot as Clayton Friend’s halfback understudy for the Kiwis’ tour to Britain and France at the end of the year.

The 25-year-old debuted against Great Britain Under-21s and scored one try from six minor matches.

Gibb joined Cobden-Kohinoor in 1988 and also had a stint with Suburbs in Greymouth.
