A tryscoring machine in the three-quarter line for Canterbury clubs Marist and Papanui, Ean Anderson toured Australia with the 1959 Kiwis.

The rugby union convert joined Marist, while his switch to Papanui in 1957 coincided with the club’s maiden championship. He was also part of New Zealand’s World Cup training squad that year.

The tries continued to pile up for Anderson over the next two seasons and Anderson won a spot for the Kiwis’ trip across the Tasman in 1959. Though not required for the Test matches, Anderson featured in three matches – debuting against Northern Division, scoring a try against Toowoomba and bagging a double against Wide Bay – for three victories.
