Te Puke-bred winger Don Kenealy played four matches on New Zealand’s 1912 tour of Australia.

A Marist Brothers rugby union player, Kenealy switched codes with fledgling Eden Rambles in 1911 and earned a call-up to the national side the following season after representing Auckland.

Kenealy played in wins over NSW – which boasted a backline featuring the likes of Dally Messenger, Herb Gilbert, ‘Boxer’ Russell and Dan Frawley – and Queensland, a loss to a Messenger-led Kangaroos selection and a victory over Newcastle.

He joined City Rovers during 1913 when the Ramblers folded.
