Fullback/winger Charles Finlayson – Kiwi #100 – played for Wellington and New Zealand against the dominant 1913 NSW tourists.

The Petone player featured on the wing in Wellington’s 34-18 loss to NSW at Newtown Park before receiving a call-up to the New Zealand side for the second clash with the visitors, also at Newtown Park, a week later.

Finlayson started at fullback in New Zealand’s 58-19 loss, which saw brilliant Australian winger Harold Horder score five tries. The 24-year-old left the field injured during the match.

An accomplished cricketer, Finlayson played against Australia for Wellington (1921) and New Zealand (1928), which had not yet attained Test match status at the time.
