Auckland forward Billy Dervan toured Australia in 1912 with the New Zealand team.

A rugby union player with Marist Old Boys and City, Dervan switched codes with Newton Rangers and earned national selection in his first season.

Dervan played prop in losses to NSW and a ‘Kangaroos’ combination, and hooker in a win over Queensland, while his other appearance was as a reserve in the tour-closing match against NSW.

Later heavily involved with boxing, Dervan became an administrator for the Auckland Boxing Association from 1914 and was its official announcer for more than 20 years.
