Rugby League has played a significant part in New Zealand sport for over 100 years.Formed in 1910, New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in New Zealand.

NZRL is divided into seven zones that service the grassroots needs of the game.These zones compete in the National Premiership/Championship,as well as women’s, youth and schools’ competitions. NZRL manages the Kiwis and Kiwi Ferns who play regular international fixtures and compete in the Rugby League World Cup every four years.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Digital Communications Executive is tasked with producing digital content for the NZRL website and other NZRL communications channels, as well as assisting the communications team where needed.

The NZRL Communications department is connected to, and works with, all areas of the organisation, and the wider rugby league community, hence the requirement for a motivated team performer who is passionate about rugby league and has the ability to develop and deliver interesting, informative, entertaining and attractive content to the NZRL community and Kiwis / Kiwi Ferns fanbase.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • To assist in the communications delivery of all NZRL campaigns, events and matches throughout the year;
  • Assist NZRL’s Brand Manager in the creation of digital graphics; 
  • Assist NZRL’s Digital Manager in the production of videoed content and the upkeep of the NZRL website and channels;
  • Film and edit original video and still content that positions NZRL favourably among its communities; 
  • Conduct and edit interviews with members of the rugby league community;
  • Assist in any live-streaming requirements;
  • Assist in any sponsor communications requirements;
  • Assist in the production of the NZRL eDM;
  • Assist in the creation of match reports; 
  • Monitor and run all NZRL social media channels; 
  • Keep up to date with latest social media and digital trends; 
  • Maintain regular contact with Zone GMs and other stakeholders.

PLANNING AND REPORTING

The following planning and reporting is required:

  • Meeting NZRL KPIs for website and digital content;
  • Meeting personal 90 Day Plan KPIs;
  • Meeting communications objectives and deadlines for digital content delivery;
  • Delivering all content in a professional and timely manner;
  • Enhancing the experience for end users on digital platforms.

OBJECTIVES – KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Creates digital content that positions NZRL favourably among its communities and fans;
  • Works pro-actively, positively and effectively with NZRL Communications team;
  • Maintains NZRL’s brand credibility through the production of quality digital content;
  • Shows initiative and creativity when it comes to communications campaigns and content delivery;
  • Enhances NZRL fan and user experience through content production.

DESIRED SKILL AND EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated experience in producing content for digital audiences, i.e. Websites, social media;
  • Strong Adobe software skills i.e. Photoshop and Premiere Pro;
  • Basic still photography and video camera skills;
  • Examples of published work through digital and / or social media channels;
  • Strong written communication skills;
  • Understanding of how to manage social media accounts;
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills and has good attention to detail; 
  • Excellent time management skills, has the ability to multitask and can work under pressure;
  • Flexible, has the ability to work weekends and travel when required;
  • A team player with the ability to fit into a positive culture and working relationships;
  • Eagerness to continuously improve, learn and grow skillsets;
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Energetic and personable, has the ability to grow network and develop relationships with those in our wider rugby league communities;
  • Relevant tertiary qualification is preferred but not essential;
  • Demonstrated passion for Rugby League and growing the sport in New Zealand.
