Waikato rugby league pioneer Reg Sprague toured Australia with the New Zealand team in 1911.
Part of the small group who initially met to get rugby league underway in the Waikato, Sprague was a regular for the fledgling provincial side.
The former sprinter made four appearances on the wing on New Zealand’s 1911 tour, scoring tries in a 26-10 loss to NSW and an 18-14 victory over Queensland.
In 1913, Sprague represented Waikato at centre in a spirited 20-14 loss to a strong NSW side in Hamilton.
