Richmond back-rower Ray Williams played for New Zealand in 1970-71.

A New Zealand Māori rep against NSW Country in 1968 and for Auckland against NSW Country in 1970, Williams was a reserve for the Kiwis’ series against the touring Great Britain side in the latter season and made his Test debut off the bench in the third encounter when he replaced injured second-rower Kevin Dixon.

Williams scored a try in Auckland’s win over Australia in 1971 and was subsequently chosen in the Kiwis’ squad to tour Britain and France, crossing for one try in 10 minor matches.

He played for Auckland against Queensland in 1972 and in the AMCO Cup competition in Australia in 1974-75. After spending the 1974 season with Ponsonby, Williams returned to Richmond as a player-coach from 1975-79.
