Richmond winger Laurie Mills played one match for New Zealand on the 1939 tour of Britain before it was abandoned due to the outbreak of World War II.

Mills had played in his club’s wins over star-studded Australian sides Eastern Suburbs in 1938 and Combined City in 1939 before setting sail with the Kiwis.

The 21-year-old lined up on the flank in the tour opener, a 19-3 win over St Helens.

Mills joined the war effort and was killed in action in Egypt in 1941.
