Ponsonby halfback William ‘Tiny Tim’ Peckham featured in two of three Tests for New Zealand against England in 1928.
Peckham was still a teenager playing for Huntly when he represented South Auckland against the 1920 English tourists. He spent 1921 with Auckland club City Rovers and debuted for the province but returned to Huntly in 1922, opposing the great Jimmy Craig in South Island’s spirited loss to NSW.
The diminutive playmaker was back in Auckland from 1925 with Ponsonby; he turned out for Auckland Province and New Zealand XIII against both of the Queensland (1925) and England (1928) touring teams.
Peckham made his Test debut as a replacement in the fiery second Test of the 1928 series against England in Dunedin, entering the fray for halfback Frank Delgrosso, who had been stretchered off. He retained the role for the deciding third Test and earned praise from his captain, Maurice Wetherill, for his performance in the 6-5 loss in Christchurch.
He had subsequent club stints with Richmond and City Rovers before retiring in 1935, while he served in World War II as a private in the Infantry Brigade in the Second NZ Expeditionary Force.
