West Coast prop/second-rower Colin McMaster played one Test for New Zealand at the 1968 World Cup after touring Australia with the Kiwis five years earlier.
The Brunner and Suburbs forward debuted for West Coast in 1959, going on to play for the province against international touring teams Australia (1961 and 1965), Great Britain (1962, 1966 and 1970) and France (1964). He also represented a New Zealand XIII against the 1962 Lions and South Island in a win over South Africa in 1963.
Earlier in 1963, McMaster was chosen in the Kiwis’ squad to go across the Tasman. He appeared in six minor matches – scoring a try on debut against Southern Division and in another win over Toowoomba as a second-rower, and filling in at centre against Wide Bay Burnett.
McMaster was recalled by New Zealand selectors for the 1968 World Cup in Australia, lining up at prop in the 38-14 loss to Great Britain at the SCG.
The local stalwart later served as president of West Coast Rugby League in the 1990s.
