Ponsonby and Auckland forward Jim Clark made two tours of Australia with the New Zealand team, six years apart.
Clark played four matches on the 1913 tour, including in a 31-12 loss to a NSW side that included legends of the era Frank Burge, Paddy McCue, Sandy Pearce, ‘Tedda’ Courtney and Billy Cann, and a 39-5 win over Queensland.
The following season, he lined up for Auckland against the touring England team.
Clark was named vice-captain of New Zealand’s 1919 tour of Australia and featured in eight of the 11 matches, including four encounters with NSW – and captaining his country in the last of those.
The Ponsonby captain would lead the club to victory over Canterbury club Federal in the inaugural Thacker Shield match in 1920, while he later moved into coaching and administration.
