Mount Albert fullback/centre Allan Wiles played one Test for New Zealand on the 1948 tour of Australia.
An Auckland rugby union and cricket representative – scoring 113 runs from seven innings in five first-class matches in the 1946-47 season – Wiles also played for New Zealand Combined Services against New Zealand in the 15-a-side game. He switched codes and made his provincial debut for Auckland in 1945.
The prolific pointscorer debuted for the Kiwis in their 1948 tour-opening loss to NSW, before lining up in the centres in the 21-19 victory in the first Test at the SCG.
But Wiles’ only other appearance on tour was in the 11-10 win over Queensland a week later.
Wiles later moved into the pack and was at loose forward in Auckland’s 15-10 loss to the famed 1951 French tourists.
