Marist fullback Norm Campbell played in the third Test for New Zealand against the 1932 English tourists.

Switching codes from Otahuhu rugby union club to Otahuhu Rovers rugby league club in 1928, Campbell joined Marist Old Boys the following season and debuted for Auckland against Northland in 1930.

Campbell represented North Island in 1931, as well as playing for a combined Marist-Devonport team against star-studded Sydney club Eastern Suburbs, a side that included luminaries such as Dave Brown, Ernie Norman, Viv Thicknesse, Ray Stehr and Joe Pearce.

After featuring in Auckland’s 19-14 loss to England at Carlaw Park in 1932, he was chosen as the custodian in a reshuffled New Zealand backline for the third Test – won 20-18 by the visitors to complete a cleansweep.

Campbell continued to be a regular for Marist and Auckland until the mid-1930s, before spending a season with Papakura and being reinstated to rugby union, whereupon he played for Otahuhu again in 1940.
