Auckland halfback Jack Russell-Green played for New Zealand in both Tests against the visiting Australian side in 1949 and toured across the Tasman in 1952.

Formerly with North Shore Albions, Russell-Green joined Point Chevalier and earned his Kiwis call-up in 1949 with Jimmy Haig and Des Barchard battling injuries, having impressed in the interisland match. Russell-Green opposed Australian captain Keith Froome as New Zealand won the first Test 26-21 and went down 13-10 in the second, as well as playing in Auckland’s 36-18 loss to the tourists in between.

Haig and Barchard were preferred by New Zealand selectors in ensuing seasons, but he was chosen as Haig’s understudy for the 1952 tour of Australia. Russell-Green made four appearances, with losses to Newcastle and Toowoomba bookending wins over Central Queensland and North Queensland.

Russell-Green later had stints with Ayr in North Queensland and St George in Perth.
