Wellington prop Ron Westerby played one Test for New Zealand against Australia in 1949.
A World War II veteran, boxing and wrestling champion, and rugby union convert, Westerby was drafted into the Kiwis line-up soon after switching to rugby league.
The 28-year-old was named in a revamped forward pack for the second encounter with Australia at Carlaw Park, which the tourists won 13-10 to square the two-Test series.
Turning out for the Central, Waterside, Korodale and Randwick clubs, Wellington regular Westerby represented Southern Provinces against Great Britain in 1950.
