Auckland forward Jim Griffen played in the historic one-off Test against Northern Union in 1910.
Griffen was part of the first official Auckland teams that played interprovincial matches in 1909, while he was its sole tryscorer in a 52-9 loss to the touring Englishmen the following season.
He was subsequently chosen at prop in New Zealand’s line-up for the Test, which Northern Union won 52-20 at the Domain Cricket Ground in Auckland.
Griffen later played in Auckland’s loss to the New Zealand touring team in 1912.
