Back-rower Mark Gillespie played four matches for New Zealand on the 1982 tour of Australia and Great Britain.
A replacement for Auckland against France in 1981, Gillespie was a bolter in the Kiwis squad the following season after impressing at club level for City-Newton and nabbing a spot in the final trial.
Gillespie scored a try on debut for New Zealand in a win over South Island in Christchurch, before featuring in victories over Gold Coast – scoring another try – and Northern Division in Australia, and Island Zone in Papua New Guinea.
