Tours: 1939 tour of Great Britain

Front-rower John Clark was one of two Kiwis produced by the Waimairi club, alongside fellow 1939 tourist, and the squad’s captain Rex King.

The Canterbury and South Island rep made his debut for New Zealand in a 19-3 victory over St Helens – the first of only two matches played before the tour was abandoned due to the outbreak of World War II. Clark, 27, also turned out for Dewsbury – then one of the RFL’s stronger clubs – while stationed in England.

Clark played for Canterbury again in 1940 and later represented Waikato.
