We congratulate Peter Dale (QSM) who received a Distinguished Service Award at the 2025 AGM on Saturday 28 June.

A former Newton Auckland schoolboy player in the 1950s, Peter has been actively involved in rugby league for decades, becoming a highly respected figure in administration and governance. He’s made an outstanding contribution to our game, demonstrating a strong commitment to leadership and the advancement of rugby league at both regional and national levels.

His influence on Wellington Rugby League has been invaluable, advising most of the local clubs before stepping in as the Chairperson of Wellington Rugby League in 2019. Peter provided strategic guidance to WRL, fostering growth and ensuring the stability and development of the game in the region. His expertise has been crucial in steering the organisation through challenges and setting it up for long-term success.

Beyond Wellington, Peter played a crucial role in conducting reviews of Auckland Rugby League, helping assess and enhance its operations to ensure best practices are maintained. His work in this space has been key in improving governance structures and ensuring the sustainability of rugby league in Tāmaki. His ability to provide clear, insightful, and objective analysis benefited stakeholders and importantly, our grassroots community, strengthening the foundations of our sport.

Peter’s contributions extend far beyond governance. He has been a mentor and advisor to many within the rugby league community, always willing to share his knowledge and experience for the betterment of the game.

Peter truly lives the values of leadership, service, and integrity. His hard work and dedication are a testament to his great nature to serve his community. His contributions to rugby league governance, strategic development, and mentorship have left a lasting legacy. It is only fitting to recognise his immense service to our sport, congratulations Peter.
