Born and raised in New Plymouth, Zach Dockar-Clay began his rugby league journey with the Bell Block Marist Dragons, where his skill, determination, and versatility quickly stood out. A proud Māori with whakapapa to Ngāti Porou and Te Āti Awa, Dockar-Clay represented the Junior Kiwis and captained the side in 2015, signalling his leadership potential at an early age.

After progressing through the Penrith Panthers system, Dockar-Clay took his talents abroad in 2017, joining Hull Kingston Rovers in England’s Super League. His time in the UK added valuable experience to his game, showcasing his adaptability across the halves and dummy half positions.

Returning to Australia, Dockar-Clay worked his way through the state competitions with the Townsville Blackhawks and Blacktown Workers before finally achieving his dream of making his NRL debut with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2022. His patience and persistence paid off as he established himself as a dependable, high-energy utility known for his defensive toughness and team-first mentality.

Dockar-Clay later joined the Sydney Roosters squad, continuing to provide leadership and consistency in key moments. His journey from grassroots to the international stage came full circle in 2025 when he was called into the New Zealand Kiwis’ Pacific Championships squad as a replacement player.
