Wellington three-quarter Billy Wilson played home Tests for New Zealand in 1914 and 1919, and embarked on tours to Australia in 1919 and 1921.

A rugby union player with the Athletic club, Wilson switched to the fledgling code in 1912 after being banned from union following a highly publicised on-field incident involving his brothers, All Black Ranji and Joseph.

Wilson, initially a forward, played for the newly formed Athletic rugby league club and represented Wellington against NSW in 1913. He was on the wing for his province against England in 1914 and scored two tries for New Zealand in its 16-13 loss in the one-off Test against the tourists.

After serving in World War I and starring for military rugby teams, he toured Australia with the New Zealand rugby league team in 1919. He scored six tries in seven appearances, including a hat-trick in a losing effort against a NSW backline featuring the likes of Harold Horder and Herb Gilbert.

Wilson played one Test against Australia during the home series later that year and crossed for two tries in three games on the 1921 tour of Australia.
