Edward (or Edmund) Tyne was a versatile performer on the 1907-08 'All Golds' tour.

Born in Napier, the rugby union halfback represented Hawke's Bay, Canterbury and South Island in the amateur code.

Tyne was playing for Petone in 1907 when he accepted a place in the 'professional All Blacks' squad for the trailblazing tour. He played at halfback in the first match against NSW (played under union rules) en route to Britain, where he played nine games at lock, centre and wing.

The 28-year-old was more prominent on the Australian leg of the tour on the way home, playing in a further seven games - including the last two Test matches at fullback.

Tyne represented Wellington against Auckland in 1908 before returning to Hawke's Bay, where he was among the founders of rugby league in the region.
